ABSTRACT:  This study determined how employable Miriam College Communication Arts and Advertising (MC CAA) graduates are in the media and communication fields. It aimed to 1) know the relevant factors (such as the competency level, examination results, personality test, physical characteristics, and the name of the school) in the process of hiring graduate; 2) know the MC CAA graduates perceive themselves in the job market; 3) know the employers perception of Miriam College graduates; 4) determine the strength and weaknesses of the current program of Miriam College Communication Arts and Advertising Department as applied in the job market; 5) know how relevant the curriculum of communication Arts and Advertising Advertisement to the level of viability of its graduates in the job market. The study was qualitative, descriptive and analytical in nature which primarily used in-depth interviews to be able to know the perception, knowledge, attitude and/or behavior of employers the graduates of Miriam College CAA applying for a job and the graduates' behaviors toward the job market. There were twelve interviewees: four Human Resource Personnel and eight alumnae of Miriam College CAA from school year 2000-2007. Below are the major findings of the researchers: 1. The relevant factors considered in the process of hiring (for the graduates) are" name of the school, academic grade and extra curricular activities ( skills and abilities), beauty, pleasing personality, resume and the "padrino system. The relevant factors HR personnel personally consider in the process of hiring graduate are competency level, examination results, personality test, physical characteristics, and the name of the school. Employers also consider other factors such as graduating from a reputable school; being academically excellent; being active in extra-curricular activities; impressive resume; pleasing personality; IQ and personality tests; and the "padrino" system as well. 2. Miriam College Communication Arts and Advertising graduates perceive themselves in the job market as competent; adapting in whatever career they choose to pursue; determined to reach their goals; confident that they can compete with thousands of graduates; can contribute a lot to the companies that hired them; and are capable to apply the learning the acquired in Miriam College. 3. Miriam College Communication Arts and Advertising graduates are perceived by their employers as street-smart, hardworking, and creative. MC CAA graduates establish good working relationships with their colleagues at work. Lastly, they are also considered as one of the assets in their companies.
