ABSTRACT:  This study on the sexual identity development of Filipino lesbians was done to explore how lesbians recognize their lesbian identity and integrate this as a positive aspect of the self. Personality, religious, and cultural factors that may affect the process were also investigated. Ten young adult lesbians who studied at exclusive schools were interviewed. Results showed that lesbian identity development comprises three stages which recur: 1) Awareness of Lesbian Identity Predisposition, 2) Experimentation with Lesbian Identity, and 3) Acceptance and Integration of Lesbian Identity. Personality, religious, and cultural factors were also found significant. An extravert personality, an accepting religion and an open-minded culture can pave the way to the development of lesbian identity.
