ABSTRACT:  This study used an experimental research method. Specifically, the pre-test, post-test control design to determine the effectiveness of the total person experiential learning approach used in conducting retreats. This study was conducted to help the students who need assistance in the development of their intellectual, spiritual and moral understanding and appreciation of Christian living. The result of the study will provide the school, the Catholic school in particular having religion as the core of their curriculum a more reliable assessment of how religious instruction is being conducted to the level of interest of the students. The research design was quantitative in nature supplemented by qualitative data. Fifty-six subjects were randomly chosen from two sections of grade six comprising 282 pupils from the Immaculate Conception Cathedral School. The selection was done by draw-lots procedure and two groups were randomly assigned as experimental and control groups. The participants were match paired in the basis of IQ, age and gender for purposes of comparison. The study sought to find out if there is a significant relationship between the two groups in terms of knowledge acquisition, attitude and behavior performances. The result of the study showed that there is no significant difference between the knowledge, attitude and behavior scores of the pupils who used the total person experiential learning approach with those who used the traditional method. Likewise, there is no significant relationship between the knowledge, attitude and behavior scores of the experimental and the control groups. The three instruments used were: 1) Knowledge test in doctrine 2) Attitude scale for Christian values and 3) Frequency Checklist on behavior tendencies. Qualitative data were obtained from an open-ended questionnaire as a basis for evaluation. For purposes of comparing two approaches in teaching, retreat modules were developed using the total person experiential learning approach for the experimental group and the traditional method for the control group. The results of the pretest and posttest on doctrinal knowledge of the experimental and control groups were compared to see if there were any significant differences. The mean scores of the ore instruction showed no difference in the knowledge scores since both groups had been match paired in terms of IQ, age and gender. On the other hand, there was a moderate but significant relationship between the attitude and behavior score of the experimental group. However, the students' perception on total person experiential learning approach was positive. More student-centered and process oriented so that the learning is more significant and lasting. The treatment is full of fun and enjoyment in experiencing the spiritual side of life. It is not threatening. The learning process involved holistic interplay of knowing, trusting and believing, a proper Christian attitude towards celebrating life in God and with God to the full.
