Summary: Jesus: the missing history - wars have been fought in his name. Untold millions have devoted their lives to him. But what do we really know for certain about Jesus ben Joseph of Galilee? This program takes a look at the events, people, and places Jesus would have known in his lifetime and goes on-location to explore the historical underpinnings of what is known and unknown, and the often fascinating territory that lies between the two. Explorer and religious scholar Kent Dobson sets out on the adventure of a lifetime to get to the bottom of it. He'll trek to Egypt, Israel, Palestine, and Jordan to find the truths behind the questions scholars and the faithful alike have pondered for centuries. -- container
Summary: Conspiracy files : secret history of Jesus - was the cruxifiction of Jesus faked? Dis he have children before his death? These questions are the basis of a whopper conspiracy - that a direct bloodline from the Son of God himself survives to this day, a secret ferociously protected by an organization called the Priory of Zion in France and headquartered in a mysterious and ancient town called Rennes-la-Chanteau. It's suggested that this conspiracy has had profound effectsthrough the centuries -- tied to the death of thousands in the crusades, the rise and fall of kingdoms, the worldwide movement of millions of dollars. It's been linked to some of the most original creative thinkers and artists in history: Leonardo Da Vinci, Sir Isaac Newton, Victor Hugo. With its religious and geo-political implications, it's a theory that has tapped into modern anxieties and grabbed the public consciousness. -- container
Summary: Eyewitness to Jesus - a fragment of papyrus that has been re-discovered could be the link that can date the Gospel of Matthew all way back to a time contemporary to the life of Jesus. The implications of archaeological evidence such as the religious community. The Gospel of Matthew may have been written by someone who actually witnessed events in the life of Jesus, a possible eyewitness to the last supper and perhaps even the crucifixion. Matthew D'Ancona of Magdalene College in Oxford travels from Egypt to the Holy Land in puruit of the evidence that can prove that this papyrus was written during the life and times of Jesus. -- container
Summary: In pursuit to the Shroud - explore the scientific and hinstorical facts of the famous Shroud of Turin, the reputed burial cloth of Jesus Christ. The Shroud is stored safely away in a chapel in Turin, Italy and has been displayed only twice in this century. The cloth itself is over fourteen feet long and contains the image of a man who has clearly been crucified. The Shroud is a true mystery: it is either an authentic burial cloth very possibly that of Jesus - or it is the work of a genius forger. During the last twenty years, serious technology has been applied to the cloth in order to determine which of these is the truth. -- container
