Summary: The story of the Agta Dumagat, one of the oldest remaining hunter-gatherer societies in the world. They live in the fast-dwindling forest of the Sierra Madre mountain range, the last great forest of the Philippines. The Agta-Dumagat are people on the brink of destruction with the loss of the Agta-Dumagat's age-old home, both livelihood and food source will be destroyed. Both culture and way of life be gone, their future will be one of poverty and disenfranchisement. The plight of the Agta-Dumagat, displaced by deorestation and poverty, is the plight of the Philippines as a whole. 97 percent of the country has been deforested and if current trends continue, its lands will be completely devoid of forest - cover by 20110. As a result, our water resources are rapidly declining - swallowed by erosion and siltation that also threaten agricultural production, coastal fisheries, and access to fresh drinking water. The severity and instance of flooding, lanslides and related natural disasters have steadily increased. The Agta-Dumagat represent much that is unique in the Philippines. They embody the vast richness that once covered these lands - a wealth that had provided us with food, water and shelter. Just as the Agta-Dumagat are faced with the poverty and displacement due to deforestation
